Vehicles should be positioned two abreast at the starting line, with a minimum of 8 feet between centers.
All vehicles must pass on the outside of the vehicle being passed. On a counterclockwise track, passing must occur to the right. On a clockwise track, passing must occur to the left. A vehicle that passes on the inside shall have one lap deducted from its score for each vehicle it passes illegally.
If a pass occurs under a yellow flag and the passing vehicle returns to its correct position before the yellow flag is lifted, there shall be no penalty.
The Event Steward shall signal vehicles that are not maintaining the inside portion of the track by displaying the BLUE WITH YELLOW STRIPE (Passing) FLAG.
All vehicles shall remain on the inside portion of the track except when passing. After completing a pass, the vehicle shall return to the inside portion of the track.
The level lane found on most velodromes is not considered part of the racing surface and shall be used only for entering and exiting the track.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to verify that their vehicles are stable on the steeply banked sections of the velodrome before competition. Typical banking angles range from 22 to 33 degrees.
