| Rule 11.9 says that batteries need to be enclosed and covered to prevent acid leakage, but if we use AGM batteries which are sealed, do we still need to have battery boxes? The AGM are at much less risk of spilling than the wet cell. | It is true that the whole point of our switching to AGM
and Gell cell batteries is to reduce the risk of battery acid leakage. Since
liquid acid batteries are still allowed in the 2004 event season the rule
on battery boxes was not addressed. As part of the proposed rule changes
for the 2005 event season, I would think this should be a point for discussion,
and may possibly be changed by the Board. At this time the rules have been published for the year and will remain in force. Even with AGM batteries, you will risk disqualification at an event if you do not meet the battery containment rules. |
